75 MW / 300 MWh Energy Storage System Energization In California

Written by Power Factors | Jan 10, 2021 7:36:00 AM

Power Factors successfully completed the commissioning of the energy management system (EMS) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) in a 75 MW / 300 MWh energy storage project located in Kings County, California, USA.

The 4-hour storage project, based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology, is a retrofit addition to an existing 100 MWAC / 134 MWDC solar plant.

With the addition of batteries, the energy generated from the sun during the day can be stored for use in the evening when the demand is higher. This approach allows California’s power grid to absorb and integrate higher levels of reliable, safe, and affordable renewable energy.

Our EMS efficiently controls the power conversion systems (PCSs) and the battery containers to provide a wide range of functionality including (but not limited to) active/reactive power control, state of charge (SoC) management and balancing, ramp rate control, and energy time shifting.

Our system will support the operation and maintenance of the asset throughout its lifecycle with intelligent alarm management and battery-specific reporting that includes several crucial KPIs for its performance guarantees, ensuring system output, reliability, and safety. The system is also designed to be easily expandable to accommodate any future augmentation services.
