Power Factors recently completed the commissioning of the Unity Power Plant Controller (PPC) for one of the world’s largest solar PV plants, a 1.5 GW project in the EMEA region. This flagship project is equipped with 4.5 million bifacial solar panels mounted on single-axis trackers.
The sheer scale of this project positions it to generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 185,000 homes annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2.9 million tons each year.
Power Factors deployed the Unity PPC in a primary-secondary configuration to control over 500 central inverters and multiple static synchronous compensators (STATCOMs). The system’s active and reactive power control is enhanced by advanced automatic voltage regulation, ensuring smooth integration of this significant project into the grid.
Additionally, Unity PPC’s design incorporates built-in redundancy, ensuring the necessary reliability and availability. This guarantees continuous and accurate operation of the site control, which is essential for optimizing the plant’s production of clean energy.
