When one of the world’s leading Independent Power Producers (IPPs) set out to commission Chile’s largest solar plant, Power Factors played a key role in bringing the project to life.
Located in the Atacama Desert—one of the best regions in the world for solar energy due to its high solar irradiance—this 480 MW solar farm features over 880,000 solar panels mounted on fixed structures with modules oriented east and west to optimize sunlight capture.
This utility-scale project is a major step forward in Chile’s renewable energy journey. It produces enough clean electricity to power 500,000 homes annually while cutting 280,000 tons of CO₂ emissions—a significant contribution to the country’s push for a lower-carbon future.
At the heart of this solar farm’s operations is Power Factors’ Local SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system and Power Plant Controller (PPC). The SCADA system provides precise, real-time monitoring and control of the plant’s operations, ensuring it performs efficiently and reliably. Meanwhile, the PPC seamlessly integrates the solar energy into Chile’s grid, helping to maintain stability and comply with local regulations.
By leveraging Power Factors' advanced software solutions, the solar farm is set up for long-term success. Operators can maximize energy production, reduce downtime, and proactively address maintenance needs—critical for navigating the changing conditions in Chile’s dynamic energy market.
This project highlights Power Factors’ growing presence in the region, where the company supports a portfolio of solar plants totaling more than 2 GW. It showcases how advanced technology is supporting Chile’s ambitious renewable energy goals and driving progress in the global transition to cleaner energy.
