Power Factors Commissions SCADA and PPC in a 315 MW PV Plant in Argentina

Power Factors has commissioned the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and power plant controller (PPC) at the largest solar plant in South America. The 315 MW facility is located 4,020 meters above sea level, making it the world’s highest-altitude solar power project.

With more than 1.1 million solar panels and more than 6,600 string inverters, the plant is expected to generate approximately 660 GWh of clean electricity annually.

PPC is deployed in a multilevel (primary/secondary) architecture for risk mitigation purposes across subfields with multiple inverter blocks and the plant has successfully completed grid compliance tests.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all SCADA and PPC-related commissioning activities were completed remotely with the dedicated support of the local team of the project’s EPC.

A 200MW extension has already been agreed upon and Power Factors looks forward to expanding its monitoring and control solution to support the full complex of 500MW in the future.

Despite the early concerns of the solar energy industry about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Power Factors has seen no negative effects on our utility-scale segment. On the contrary, the company’s footprint in SCADA and PPC deployments is experiencing fast expansion both in North America and globally.
